Our New Sandy Donor Center is Now Open!
ARUP Blood Services is proud to announce that we have opened a new state-of-the-art blood collection center in Sandy, UT to help save Utah lives. The new 15,000 square-foot donor collection center was built in response to increasing demands for blood products at the hospitals that ARUP serves.
ARUP’s new facility is conveniently located just off I-15 at 9786 Sandy Parkway (500 West) and will be open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the weekends. If you are coming off I-15 and take the 90th South exit all you need to do is take a quick left on the first road which is Sandy Parkway/450 West. If you take the 106th South exit then take a quick right on Jordan Gateway and head north to 9786 South and ARUP is just on the west side of the road.
ARUP Blood Services new donor center has been designed with the latest technology and comfort so that donors can enjoy the blood-giving experience. The new center will feature “eChairs” for platelet donors giving them the option to surf the Internet or watch a movie from a selection of more than 1,000 movies.
The new center will also feature the latest “vein scanners” that allow the phlebotomist to accurately find a donor’s vein on the first stick. These work by shining a light on a donor’s arm which illuminates the donor’s veins and taking the guessing game out of tough-to-find donor veins.
ARUP Blood Services really wants to create the best experience possible for the volunteer donors. That is why the new donor center is located close to the freeway for easy convenience and the bigger center also allows for quick donation time so you can get on your way. ARUP Blood Services wants to create a lifelong partnership with all the donors that help save lives.
ARUP Blood Services is the sole blood provider of blood to the patients at University Hospital, Huntsman Cancer Hospital, Primary Children’s Medical Center, and Shriners Hospital for Children. These hospitals transfuse around 7,000 patients each year.
In the year 2000 ARUP only needed to 700 units of whole blood each month. Today ARUP needs to collect nearly 1,800 units a month and 600 platelets to help the patients at the hospitals and the demands continue to climb.
Please take the time to come visit our new facility. Together we can help save lives!
